THE “FRENCHEST” OF IRISH COOKS
Trish Deseine entertains the French way. Having lived and worked in France for the last 20 years she has freely developed her passion for cooking and is now one of France’s most celebrated food writers. She has sold over 1 MILLION cookbooks, presented two TV series and written countless articles both in English and in French.
Born in Northern Ireland, Trish spent most of her childhood helping her mother bake for church sales, coffee mornings and casual family get-togethers. Visiting Paris during a school-trip when she was 14, Trish became smitten with France. Then, years later, whilst studying French and linguistics at Edinburgh University, Trish spent a year in the South of France, where she visited the open-air market in Antibes on an almost daily basis marvelling at the variety of fresh vegetables and fruit on offer.
Following the completion of her degree, Trish moved to Paris where she worked with the fashion retailer French Connection and later the Northern Ireland Tourist Board as Southern European Marketing & Press Executive.
In 2000, Trish set up a company Au Comptoir des Chefs selling her favourite product – CHOCOLATE. Enticed to give cookery demonstrations, she quickly caught the eye of leading French illustrated book publisher Marabout, who loved her imaginative, rule-breaking style. Neither a trained chef nor a home-economist Trish cooks instinctively. Her recipes are pragmatic, forgiving and chatty and are perfect for anyone who wants to shop and cook like the French do at home.
As a bestselling author in France, Trish has produced 16 food books in French, all published by Marabout, most of which have been translated into several languages, and two for British publisher Kyle Cathie. Her first book Petits Plats Entre Amis was an instant hit and won the prestigious Laduree and Seb prizes whilst her second book Je Veux du Chocolat became a worldwide bestseller winning a World Gourmand Award. She continued to go from strength to strength. In Ma Petite Robe Noir, Trish explored the connection between wardrobe staples and food and became the first non-French author to win France's most prestigious cookery prize, the Prix La Mazille at the Perigueux Cookbook Festival.
Trish’s English language TV food programmes include Trish's Paris Kitchen and Trish's Med Kitchen which have been broadcast prime time by RTE, UKTV and throughout the BBC Lifestyle Network. She writes regularly for French magazines ELLE and ELLE à Table.
At the tail end of 2009, during the UK’s largest and most indulgent chocolate celebration - Chocolate Week - Trish will introduce a new range of French cooks’ chocolate - ‘Chocolate by Trish’.
Trish lives in Paris with her four children.
